Why you should always put a tablespoon with sugar in your yard - before you leave the house
|
Some people don't like bees. They think they are just disturbing us while we try to enjoy a pleasant afternoon reading a book. But the fact is that these little insects are dying.
This is very important, because bees are responsible for feeding 90% of the world's population. And the fact is that we will not be able to survive without them.
You don't have to be a tree hugger to respect the environment you live in, and thank God, there are some simple things you can do to help the planet.
No one can do everything, but everyone can do something, as they say. We have a responsibility to preserve our beautiful world for those who will come after us.
Sir David Attenborough from the BBC, 94 years old, who has fought for animals, environment and nature all his life, and only recently warned leaders from extinction crisis is certainly someone to listen to and take seriously.
The British zoologist and author is best known as a presenter and host on TV shows, and you are surely familiar with his voice.
Several years ago, a message has been spreading around the globe, apparently published by the living legend himself.
As it turned out, the message didn't come from Sir Attenborough himself, but it still got the attention of everyone around the globe because the message was important nonetheless.
Here's the original message:
"If bees disappear from the face of our planet, humans will only have 4 years to survive..
.. they may seem small and unimportant, but bees have a huge task - nearly a third of the food we eat is pollinated by these insects..
In the last 5 years the bee population has dropped by 1/3..
But the situation is not hopeless. There's one thing we can all do - and it's an idea that is spreading around like wildfire and its also supported and backed up by beekeepers.
The idea is simple: Mix sugar and water on a tablespoon and leave it in your backyard.
The explanation, as was written in the original post:
"At this time of year bees can look like they are dying, but they are very far from it. Bees can become exhausted and simply running out of enough energy to return to the hive, which can cause them to get carried away."
"If you find a tired bee at home, a simple solution of sugar and water will help revive the exhausted bee."
"Just mix 2 tablespoons of white sugar with a tablespoon of water, and place the spoon somewhere the bee can reach. You can also help by sharing the post to raise awareness."
Here's another way to help bees and humanity flourish:
Grow flowers on the porch or let wildflowers take over a corner of your yard. Your local bees will love it, and it will help them survive by consuming the food they enjoy the most: flowers syrup!
