Former model Turia Pitt took part in an ultra marathon six years ago in Australia when she was caught in the middle of a forest fire. She suffered severe burns in 64 percent of her body.

Doctors said there was a chance she would not survive.

When the accident happened, Turia's partner, Michael Hoskin resigned from his job as a police officer to take care of her. He always stayed by her side and guarded her. Since the accident, she has undergone 200 surgeries.

In 2015 Michael proposed marriage to Turia with a diamond ring he had bought when she was in intensive care a few years earlier. Michael said he proposed to her while they were on vacation in the Maldives.

"When Turia was in intensive care four years ago I bought a diamond ring", Michael told the Daily Mail. Turia had to wear a mask on her face for two years to help her wounds heal. Slowly, the wounds healed. 'You're beautiful', Michael tells his bride every day.

Turia thanks Michael for all the support he has given her during the seven difficult years she has spent mostly in the hospital.

"Going to sleep next to my partner was obvious in the past. Today I think I'm lucky I get to sleep next to this amazing man. He's a good person and I'm lucky to be with him", Turia Pitt said.

"Every day I wake up next to Michael is a good day".

Since the tragic accident, the couple have had to rebuild their lives and struggled to move on.

"She does not want people to feel sorry for her. She just wants to get on with her life", Michael said. "She's beautiful, she's amazing".

But despite all this, they felt something was missing in their lives. They wanted to become a family.

Earlier this year, Turia revealed on Instagram that she is pregnant with their first child. The news spread across Australia, where people have followed the couple's journey over the years.

The expectant mother explained that she kept fit during the pregnancy, even though she would not be able to run a marathon for a while.
